About to give up?

It has been quite a year. In the beginning, it all was blissful and sweet. Towards the end of the first quarter, I found myself in a rather uncomfortable position. It was bearable so I resort to keeping it in the subconscious mind. That bit worked for a while.

At the end of the second quarter my mind was in a disarray. The fact that I would totally loose only my source of income made me very anxious. I was too hysterical to make any logical decision. This led me to make several calls to a lot of people seeking a quick fix like a new job. These quick fixes are the ones that cons wait for. One friend, in particular, was quite reassuring. She promised to give me a heads up when something came up. Though I was down for anything.

Stressed woman

True to her word she did come through and I applied for a certain promising job. At my work place things were just ugly. Communication was poor and vague. One was not sure whether they would still be at work or not. I received an email that stated that I had gotten a job. The pay was not much but it was better than the uncertain job that I clinged to. In my excitement, I also received an acceptance offer letter for a training I had a applied for. Call it double double 2020 blessing when things are thick.

The next day I was in the spirit of resigning my job since I had found new pastures. I went back to my job offer letter. Reading through it word for word, something suspicious stood out. It stated that I was to pay a certain amount of money for a certain registration number. This is when I took due diligence to check out the company online to my disappointment it did not exist. Since I could not believe it, I decided to post it in a group where colleagues in my field share several pieces of information. Thirty seconds after posting it, a friend highlighted that the post was a scam.

The advert had a very small time limit for acceptance for submission with the stated money transaction. Remember cons like quick fixes so that they can make a quick buck. Anything done hurriedly never has a good outcome. Half my joy faded, it was time to focus on the joy that had come earlier.

Bright idea

After my mind had calmed down, I realized that I had to do something. Just by accident, I landed on the things I enjoyed doing and eating. That is how my peanut business was born. It went on great online to a point, I opened shop. This was not my first business to engage in, but a first in a while.Things were going well but on the fourth month sales stagnated. I often got myself somewhat limp even to sell. I blamed it on the whether, hormones, thank God I live alone otherwise my housemate would also be part of the blame.

Every entrepreneurs nightmare is running broke and running late on bills. This can cause unnecessary embarrassment and even affect ones mental health. There are several payments that I service monthly but in my current status, they were more of a luxury. A person whom I respect approached me and asked if I was interested in a financial freedom investment. Due to the high esteem I have for her, I decided to go sit and listen.

The meeting was held in a rather posh restaurant. Broke or not, I do appreciate a touch of class. The welcome was very honorable too. The first word that spooked me was the name of the apparent business venture. I sat still as everyone else did not seem alarmed by it. The speaker was so passionate about it and encouraging us to enroll all our family members. Everyone seemed to be hypnotized by his charms as my mind questioned every word he uttered.

Doubt / Question

The meeting was rather successful with people in attendance registering in the venture. I pulled my host aside and asked whether this venture was legitimate? She seemed smitten by the big rewards that she said yes without hesitation. One last statement by the speaker just got me more concerned. He said that one need not know the business model, but to just join in and learn later as they did the business. That was the final red flag. As a prayerful person, I asked for a discerning spirit as I enquired from friends about it.

Eventually, I opted out after a serious deep thought. Now that was out of my way, I exited the group. No sooner had the statement that reads ‘my name has left’ did I receive a call from another lady. She apparently had seen me leave and was interested in joining me to another business venture. My mind was just smiling wondering what the world has turned into, everybody is now very eager to help others financially in quick-fix schemes.

That must have been the end with cons schemes till the new year. As bills were accumulating and nothing forthcoming, I was slowly going down the self doubt route of every unhappy broke entrepreneur. My mind still playing games on me, I saw the below post in a group. All of a sudden my spirit was rejuvenated and decided to push through.

Motivation quote

In my pushing through the day, I saw an email for a training that I had applied for. It was business-oriented. While I was attending the meeting, I realized what I was doing wrong in my business, and that quitting was not an option. Yes, my finances were on the low but there were options on how to go about it. Through the class, I learned that I could do a lot more when done with the correct level of support which I had not previously considered.

Her punch line that got to me was that our mind can at times play tricks on us and let us slack when we shouldn’t. This life has so many options and we give up too soon when we shouldn’t. We are meant to seek other ways of doing the same thing to achieve our goals. For some people, even a chat from the right person might be bring the required change. Seek out support. There are many groups or people who are offering pro-bono services. Speak out and get the required assistance.

In case you need to know where you can get support from, just talk to me.

SO DO YOU STILL WANT TO GIVE UP?
